- Meet The Hearts Behind Velvet Poppy -

After nearly a decade of professional experience as an early childhood educator and family and special needs advocate, I felt a shift, as if my soul was searching for something different. As a gemini (sun), my nature is to be playful and creative. My soul quietly whispered “yes” when I began interning with a wedding floral designer in Columbia, SC.  From the very first day, I had this spark of energy that buzzed through my bones and I felt alive again. I will forever be grateful for my intern experience with Fern in Columbia, SC, where I first fell in love with flowering and began to bloom, grow, and expand my creative energy and capabilities.

I am so very grateful that flowering continues to allow me utilize my creative yet nurturing energy. I also adore and have always been drawn to both love and nature, so designing with mother’s nature’s beautiful creations for humans that have found a forever kind of love, on their wedding day, truly marries the two things that feel like home to me. I love working with and celebrating all couples, with floral design and details to reflect the pure magic and beauty of the love that you share for one another.

I was born and raised in a small town in South Carolina & my husband, Zach and I now live in Hendersonville, NC. I am most grounded and happiest when I am practicing yoga, hiking with my husband and our dogs, and forging and creating with flora and fauna. Although I have a tremendous appreciation for all seasons, I love the fall, when the air is crisp and the trees turn rich and lavish warm colors of gold, honey, and garnet. I love to see people being kind to others and believe we are all more alike than we are different. I am grateful for all of my past experiences that have brought me to where I am now and would be honored to flower for your wedding day, to celebrate the love you have found!

Partner & Hype Man

I was born in the beautiful upstate of South Carolina and was lucky enough to have two grandmothers that were always gardening and sharing their beautiful plants and blooms with the community. One of my grandmothers maintained a local garden and taught gardening and outdoor techniques to the local schools. My other grandmother was a floral designer for over 20 years and always eager to share the beauty that nature has to offer, often donating timeless arrangements to be auctioned for charity.

After graduating from USC ,for the past 8 years I have focused on technical consulting building end to end customer experiences and leading technical efforts for a large government agency. I love technical work and love to use my experience in creative ways for others.

After meeting my soulmate, Kelsey, many years ago I was thrilled to discover that she has a burning passion and incredible raw talent in floral design.

Using my technical experience and love for nature we joined forces and built The Velvet Poppy. I use my experience to build out our website and customer journey. I jump behind the camera to capture the unique beauty of our floral designs. I also help Kelsey with processing florals as they are delivered to ensure maximum freshness. I’m responsible for building out the floral mechanics that are required for each floral install. I’ll even take the bike out to the trail and forage for greenery and wonderful local varieties to make your day uniquely nature infused. On your wedding day there is a chance you will see me moving flower buckets, refreshing compotes, keeping the lacroix flowing and pumping up the jams to ensure a perfect design vibe for the team. We love what we do.

We look forward to bringing you a floral experience beyond your wildest dreams.
